Directions to The Half Moon, Horsington

Directions from Bristol International Airport

This is a cross country route so some of the roads are narrow and the signposts are sometimes small.

Turn right out of the airport onto the A38 in the direction of Taunton. There is a small road on the left ( about the 4th on your left) sign posted to Burrington turn left here. Then turn right and then 2nd left sign posted to Burrington Coombe, this is a road up through a deep gorge. Follow signs for Wells and then Shepton Mallet. You will then be on the A37. Continue south through Castle Cary, the road becomes the A371.

At Wincanton (you will have passed Holbrook House Hotel on your left) you will come to a roundabout, go straight over this one and the next one onto the A357 direction Templecombe and Blandford.

You will pass under the A303 and past a Shell petrol station.

After 3 miles the road dips down sharply and in the bottom of the dip take the left turn to Horsington.

We are 150 yards down on the left-hand side.

If you arrive during opening hours please go into the pub and make yourself known to the bar person. If you arrive outside opening hours and no-one is visible please go to the front door of the pub and ring the bell. As we have children we may be on the school run (3.00pm - 3.45pm). Directions from the South

From Bournemouth:- travel north on the A350 to Blandford Forum. Then around Blandford through Sixpenny Handley and past Sturminster Newton following signs to Stalbridge and Wincanton. Through Stalbridge to Henstridge and straight over the A30 at The Virginia Ash.
Then follow directions in section B.

From Shaftesbury/Salisbury:- drive west along the A30 to Henstridge. Turn right at the traffic lights onto the A357. 

Section B.
Pass through Yenston and onto Templecombe. You will pass under a railway bridge in Templecombe.

After 1 mile the road dips down sharply and swings to the right. In the bottom of the dip is a stone bus shelter on the right hand-side. Take the right turning into Horsington and we are 150 yards along on the left.

Directions from London and the South-east

Take the M25 then the M3 - direction Basingstoke, then the A303 - direction Andover/Exeter.
Leave the A303 at Wincanton.
At the first roundabout ( Morrisons supermarket is to your right) turn left. Straight over the next roundabout, over the hill and left at the last roundabout, this brings you under the A303 and past a Shell petrol station. After about 3 miles you will come across a column of signs indicating double bends, maximum speed 30mph and reduce speed now.
Immediately after these signs the road dips down. In the bottom of this dip is a left turning to Horsington, we are 150 - 200 yards along on the left-hand side.

Directions from Bristol and the North

This journey will take about an hour depending on whether you are travelling in the rush hour or not.

Approaching Bristol on the southbound M5, take the M4, direction Bath (M32).
Follow M32 into centre of Bristol.
Follow flow of traffic to Bristol Templemeads BR and then follow the signs for the A37, which is clearly marked on the road surface. Passing out of Bristol you take the A37 direction Yeovil/Shepton Mallet.

Follow signs to Shepton Mallet and Castle Cary, the A37 becomes the A371.
